About Nurturing Minds THERAPEUTIC PLAY
Therapeutic Play sessions
I offer a warm, safe and child-centred space where children can express themselves through play – their natural language. Sessions are child-led and non-directive, giving each child the opportunity to explore their thoughts, feelings and experiences at their own pace.
I am an experienced Therapeutic Play Practitioner with a background in early years education and a particular interest in children’s emotional wellbeing, attachment and development. I am currently completing my MA in Practice-Based Play Therapy with the University of Chichester, training towards becoming a qualified Play Therapist.
I am a member of Play Therapy UK (PTUK), receive regular clinical supervision, hold an Enhanced DBS certificate and am fully insured.
Based in Hampshire, I provide therapeutic play and emotional wellbeing support for children within schools and other appropriate settings across Hampshire and surrounding areas.
THERAPEUTIC PLAY OFFERS CHILDREN A SAFE WAY TO BE UNDERSTOOD
Therapeutic play sessiopns offers children a safe way to be understood. When children are struggling emotionally, they don’t always have the words to explain how they feel. Through play, children can express worries, fears, and experiences in a way that feels natural and familiar. Play therapy supports children to feel heard, build emotional resilience, and develop healthier ways of understanding themselves and their relationships.
Sessions are child-led and non-directive, meaning each child is free to choose how they play and what they bring into the session. There is no pressure to talk, explain, or behave in a particular way. Instead, I follow the child’s lead, offering a consistent, accepting, and emotionally safe relationship where the child remains in control of their own therapeutic journey.
This approach allows children to explore their inner world at their own pace, helping them to process experiences in a way that feels right for them. Over time, children often develop increased self-confidence, emotional awareness, and coping skills that support their wellbeing both inside and outside of the therapy room.
I have completed Level One training in Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP), developed by Dr Daniel Hughes, and am beginning to apply the DDP principles within my practice.
This additional training enhances my understanding of attachment, developmental trauma and the importance of safe, nurturing relationships. It complements my play therapy approach, supporting my commitment to working with children through playfulness, acceptance, curiosity and empathy (PACE).
