I am supported in my work by Rosie, my gentle and affectionate Cockapoo, who is nearly two years old. Rosie has been professionally trained and qualified as a therapy dog through Paws Therapy. She is fully insured and veterinarily approved to work as a therapy dog, ensuring her suitability, health, and wellbeing are maintained at all times.
Rosie may be present during some play therapy sessions, where appropriate and with consent. Her role is to offer quiet companionship and emotional comfort, supporting a sense of safety and emotional regulation within the therapeutic space. For some children, Rosie’s calm and reassuring presence can help them feel more at ease and settled.
In line with Play Therapy UK principles, Rosie’s involvement is always child-led. Children are never required to interact with her, and she is included only when it is therapeutically appropriate. Some children may choose to engage directly with Rosie, while others may simply feel comforted knowing she is nearby.
Rosie does not replace the therapeutic relationship. Instead, she may enhance the play therapy process by offering a warm, non-judgemental presence that supports emotional expression and wellbeing in a gentle and natural way.
Rosie is a hypoallergenic breed and is regularly health-checked, groomed, and rested to ensure her wellbeing. Her presence in sessions is always discussed in advance, and parental consent is obtained. Rosie’s involvement is carefully managed, and she is given time away from sessions as needed to ensure her welfare and the safety of all children.
