I offer play-based emotional wellbeing support for children within schools and other appropriately supervised environments, including nurseries, hospitals, children centres and where there is an established safeguarding team.
My approach is warm, child-centred and non-judgemental. I aim to provide a calm, nurturing and accepting space where children can use play and creativity to express themselves, explore their feelings and experiences, and feel heard and understood.
I am currently completing my MA in Practice-Based Play Therapy with the University of Chichester. I am a member of Play Therapy UK (PTUK) and receive regular clinical supervision to support safe, reflective and ethical practice.
Who May Benefit?
Children do not always have the words to explain how they are feeling or what may be troubling them. Play provides a natural and familiar way for children to communicate and express emotions that may be difficult to put into words.
Children’s Wellbeing and Therapeutic Play may be suitable for children experiencing:
Worries or anxiety
Low confidence or self-esteem
Friendship or relationship difficulties
Changes or challenges within family life
Difficulties or transitions at school
Big or overwhelming emotions
Difficulty expressing or understanding their feelings
Change, loss or uncertainty
A need for additional emotional support
Every child is unique, and referrals are considered individually. An initial discussion will help to explore the child’s needs and whether this type of support is appropriate for them.
Referral Criteria
Referrals can be made by schools and other professionals, with appropriate parental/carer consent and in accordance with the safeguarding procedures of the setting.
Before sessions begin, relevant background information will be gathered to help develop an understanding of the child, their circumstances and the reasons for referral.
Children’s Wellbeing and Therapeutic Play is intended to provide emotional wellbeing support and is not a substitute for specialist mental health, medical or crisis services.
Where concerns suggest that a child may require a different or more specialist level of support, this will be discussed with the appropriate parent/carer, school or professional and managed in accordance with safeguarding procedures.
How Sessions Work
Sessions are child-centred and guided by the individual child and their needs.
Through play, creativity and imagination, children are given opportunities to explore experiences, communicate feelings and develop their emotional awareness in a way that feels natural and manageable for them.
Consistency is important. Wherever possible, sessions should take place regularly and in a suitable, private and predictable space where the child can feel comfortable and interruptions can be kept to a minimum.
The pace of the work is led by the child. There is no expectation for a child to talk about anything before they are ready.
Working With Parents, Carers and Professionals
Working collaboratively with the adults around a child can be an important part of supporting their emotional wellbeing.
Parent/carer discussions and review meetings provide an opportunity to consider how the child is progressing and whether any additional support may be helpful.
While appropriate feedback can be provided, it is also important that children have a sense of privacy and trust within their sessions. Information will therefore be shared thoughtfully and appropriately, while always following safeguarding procedures where there are concerns about a child’s safety or wellbeing.

Making a Referral
If you are a school, parent/carer or professional and would like to discuss whether Children’s Wellbeing and Therapeutic Play may be suitable for a child, please get in touch for an initial conversation.
I am happy to discuss the child’s needs, the reason for referral and the practical arrangements before deciding together whether this support would be appropriate.
